A RIVER CUTS THROUGH ROCK,

MOVE YOUR ARMS FASTER

Published in Golf Academy Monthly Digital Magazine - November 2016 Issue

Most golfers know that to hit the ball farther, they have to swing the clubhead faster.  But their concept of how to do it is wrong. They use too much upper body and not enough hands and arms.  To generate more clubhead speed you have to be able to separate your arms from your chest on the downswing.  Look at these three images to the left: At address and impact my shirt buttons and hands are in virtually in the same place, over the ball, whereas at the top of the backswing my hands have traveled a much great distance from the ball.  The only way then for the hands to catch up to the sternum and create a "tie" at impact is to swing my arms much faster than my chest. Learn to separate the two - hitting shots with a 7-iron and your feet together is a good way to build arm speed-and you will start separating yourself from your buddies off the tee as well. -- MARK POLICH
