WHAT IS THE AMAZING WHOOSH STICK?

It is a training aid invented by Mark Polich to help golfers add club speed.

​

IS CLUB SPEED IMPORTANT?

Yes it is.  Several years ago I did a research project using TrackMan where I hit over 3,000 golf shots with every club with club speed ranging from 40 to 105 miles per hour.  What I discovered was that for every mile per hour increase in club speed with an iron, the ball would travel 2 additional yards.  With a driver, the increase was just under 3 yards for every mile per hour increase in club speed.  It's just physics, more club speed, ball travels faster and further before gravity takes over and brings the ball back to earth.

HOW DO YOU MEASURE THE CHANGE IN CLUB SPEED?

All shots are measured using the gold standard for golf swing analysis, TrackMan 4 Launch Monitor System.  This is the dual doppler radar system used by most of the top golfers, instructors, club fitters, and club manufacturers worldwide.  First, golfers begin by hitting shots and the results are tallied.  Next, they begin swinging the Amazing Whoosh Stick.  And then they return to swinging their own club and hitting balls again.

DOES IT REALLY WORK?

It sure does.  I have had hundreds of students test it out in the Studio with results of over 90% of all students that use it achieve faster club speed during the first session.  Initial club speed increases range from 4-5% to over 10%, and occasionally a golfer will achieve over 20% increase in club speed.

WHY DO GOLFERS STRUGGLE TO ADD CLUB SPEED?

There are two reasons.  First, golfers are typically unaware but they have an internal governor on the swing which restricts them from swinging faster. They tend to swing at a constant speed through impact and beyond.  Basically golfers have memorized their swing speed and due to the brain wanting to return to existing habits, golfers will swing at the same speed they have always swung.  Unless of course, there is a way TO OVERRIDE EXISTING HABITS.  

 

Second, golfers typically typically have their "whoosh" occur before or at the ball causing them to throw away power.  Until a golfer learns the correct time to add maximum speed, their club speed will remain unchanged.

WHY DOES THIS TRAINING AID WORK?

There are two reasons.  First, the Amazing Whoosh Stick in a kinesthetic wonder that teaches a golfer to not only swing faster but in the proper sequence all without conscious thought.  It naturally teaches you how to preserve and then deliver the accumulated energy at the correct point in the swing, JUST PAST THE BALL.  The learning I have just described magically takes place WITHOUT CONSCIOUS THOUGHT.  How delicious of a proposition is that.  YOU DON'T HAVE TO THINK YOUR WAY THROUGH THE SWING.

Second, with the audio based feed back, THE WHOOSH SOUND, golfers learn to add the speed at the proper moment in the swing, JUST PAST THE BALL.  Once again, the beauty of the Amazing Whoosh Stick is you don't have to think about creating the proper sequence (such as shift your weight or hold the lag), it just occurs as a natural by-product of practicing with it.

Third, this training aid translates into more club speed when you return to swinging your own club.  Many training aids work as long as you are using them but once you take them away, you return to your old habits.

WHAT ABOUT OTHER TRAINING AIDS MAKING THE SAME CLAIMS?

Certainly there are other training aids available.  I have tried many of them and did not find any of them to be effective at adding club speed.  And golf instructors often talk about holding a club upside down and swinging it to learn to add club speed.  Although this may begin to give a golfer a sense of where the whoosh should should be, it certainly does not help them add club speed.
